Ralston Rosebowl Cancelled
The annual Open competition for the Ralston Rosebowl due to be played this Saturday 6th August 2011 has been cancelled.
This is due to lack of entrants in the competition. Throughout the year members of council have been working hard to encourage support for this years competition after a poor turnout last year. Despite their efforts however entries as at Wednesday 3rd August were still over one third down on last year. I would especially like to thank David Vennard, Peter McEachran, Ian Gray, Gordon Jamison and Norrie Grant for their efforts throughout the year in trying to promote the Rosebowl whilst travelling about with our Club teams.
As the course is now free on Saturday I propose to have a Stableford competition run for the Gents. It will be on the same basis as a Tuesday medal- no tee booking just turn up and play- there is no requirement to play in the competition, you can use the day to catch up on any play offs or delayed ties or just have a friendly game with a few friends.
In addition to the usual sweep there will be a box of balls for the winner, 6 for the runner up and a sleeve for third.
Any of the 14 away players who entered the Rosebowl may attend and have courtesy of the course.

BALLOTED MEDAL TIMES
When competitions have been balloted for start times players must only play in their allocated ballot slot. If for any reason a member requires to change their balloted time this may only be done with the permission of a member of the match committee, or the professional if they have control of the start sheet(usually within 1 week of the competition date). To arrange mutual exchanges of tee times without authorisation is a breach of rule 6.3 (penalty-disqualification from competition)

Ian has a close shave for charity
Ralston member Ian Aitchison made a magnificent £2,800 for three different charities all by shaving his beard off.

Ian has had his beard since he was 8 years old (roughly) but decided he would have it shaved off for charity. By Sunday 25 July Ian had collected a magnificent £2,800. The charities to benefit were..
Accord Hospice - £1,080
Macmillan Nurses - £1,060
Marie Curie - £660

Ian said that thanks to the generosity and cooperation of the Captain, council, staff and members of Ralston Golf Club I raised just over £2,800.
Certificate of Appreciation to Bill Flint
To mark his outstanding commitment to the Golf Club over many years Past Captain Iain Gordon presented Bill Flint with a Certificate of Appreciation, an engraved watch and a bottle of malt whisky at the AGM on 8th March 2010. Bill has devoted an incredible amount of his own time maintaining the electrics and lighting in the Golf Club saving a vast amount of money over the years. The Council felt this small token of appreciation should be bestowed on Bill as he retires from another spell on the Council.

Ian MacLeod, Iain Gordon, Bill, Hazel, Captain Kevin Heathwood and Alistair Ferrier
At the AGM Past Captain Iain Gordon paid tribute to Bill for all he has done adding that he is one of life’s true gentlemen who is very popular with all the members and staff. Bill received a standing ovation from all present at the AGM and in his reply he thanked everyone for the kind gesture saying he had absolutely no knowledge this was going to happen.

Later on in the evening Bill’s partner Hazel was presented with a bouquet of flowers on behalf of the Club.
